Jao is a framework, game server and set of clients written in Java for developing and playing card games. Support for trick taking games like Hearts, continuous play games like Crazy Eights, and partial support for mutable games like Mao is envisioned.
For more information on playing games, refer to the User Guide. To download and set up your own Jao server, refer to the Installation Guide. You will find it much easier to allow people to play on your Jao server if you already have a web server installed. To get started with developing new card games or parts of Jao itself, refer to the System Guide after you have successfully installed Jao.
The intent of Jao is to provide a framework for easily developing card games with a consistent look and feel. Also, as far as I am aware, there are no plans other than this project to provide a means of playing mutable games like Mao. The ability of playing Mao online may increase the player base.
